About the Vetrukis Board Game Club in Melbourne
Vetrukis is a physical board game tournament club based in Melbourne, Victoria. We exist for one simple reason: to give tabletop players a regular, well-organised place to test their skills, meet like-minded people and enjoy the games they love. Everything happens in person at our Collins Street venue — this is a real club with real tables, not an online platform.
What We're About
Our purpose is to build a friendly, active tabletop community in Melbourne through scheduled tournaments that anyone can join. We organise a steady rotation of events across the calendar, from casual social nights to competitive seasonal championships, so there’s always a reason to come back. We believe great board games are best enjoyed face to face, and we’ve built a club that celebrates exactly that.
The Atmosphere
Step through our doors and you’ll find a relaxed, welcoming space where competition stays friendly and everyone’s made to feel at home. We’re serious about running fair, well-structured tournaments, but we never lose sight of the fun. Expect plenty of laughter, a bit of good-natured rivalry and a room full of people happy to talk tactics or teach you a new game.
Who Can Take Part
Everyone is welcome at Vetrukis. You don’t need years of experience or a shelf full of trophies — just an interest in tabletop gaming and a willingness to have a go. Players of all skill levels share our tables, and our formats are designed so beginners and veterans alike can find their level.
Individual Tournament Formats
If you prefer to fly solo, our individual tournaments are for you. You’ll register on your own and compete across a series of rounds against other individual players. These events reward personal strategy, adaptability and focus, and they’re a great way to measure your own game and meet new people at the same time.
Team Tournament Formats
Prefer to play alongside others? Our team tournaments let you register as a group and compete together. Teams work through the rounds as a unit, combining their strengths and strategies. Team events are brilliant for friends, workmates or newly formed squads who want a shared challenge and a shared celebration.
For Beginners
New to tournament play? Our beginner-friendly events are the perfect starting point. Games are provided, rules are explained clearly before each round, and the atmosphere is supportive rather than intense. You can register as an individual and ease into the community at your own pace — no prior experience needed.
For Experienced Players
If you’ve been gaming for years, Vetrukis gives you a regular competitive outlet. Our strategy tournaments, deck-building events and seasonal championships offer depth, structure and worthy opponents. Come to sharpen your play, defend a title or simply enjoy a higher level of competition.
Strategy, Communication and Connection
Tabletop gaming is about more than the win. Our tournaments encourage strategic thinking, clear communication and genuine social interaction. Whether you’re negotiating a trade, coordinating a team move or chatting between rounds, you’ll find Vetrukis is a place where friendly competition and community go hand in hand.
What to Expect at a Tournament
If it’s your first time, here’s roughly how a Vetrukis event runs:
Arrival and check-in
Turn up a little before the start time, let us know you’ve arrived and confirm your registration at the desk.
Event briefing
We’ll run through the format, the schedule and the ground rules so everyone starts on the same page.
Game setup
Tables and games are set up ready to play — we’ll help you get settled and answer any last questions.
Round-based play
The tournament runs across a series of rounds, with pairings or match-ups announced as you go.
Breaks
We build in short breaks so you can rest, grab a drink and have a chat between rounds.
Results
At the end we tally the results and recognise the top performers with non-cash rewards such as trophies, certificates or club merchandise.
Friendly social time
Once the games wrap up, stick around for a relaxed catch-up. Some of the best parts of the night happen after the final round.
We keep things straightforward, friendly and well-run — so all you need to focus on is the game in front of you.
